On Friday the 23rd of December my friend and I decided to fish Paaltjies as lots of news reached us that the fish are on the bite.
Pilchards is the bait of choice and we set off at 08:30 to fish Paaltjie one and two as the water turns for high tide. After arriving at the parking area we proceeded towards the beach.
We found a good looking spot where there was a “sloep” at about 10-20 meter from the beach and a bank at 50 meters. (Very important) we used 8 ounce wire sinkers as the water pulls quite hard. We did not have to cast deep.
The tackle is 6-8 O Kendal Hooks on a sliding sinker trace. The big Kabeljou tend to strike hard and with you sinker sliding you get a better hook up.
Both Riaan and I caught just 2 big fish over 70 cm as this is the law.
Paaltjies will be closed for harvesting from the beginning of January 2017 till March 2017 and every year thereafter. You would still be able to catch and release them.

When are planning to go fishing? Have you fished in Namibia before?
When is the best time to fish paaltjies (which month), we touring Namibia in 2021 and paaltjies right up till henties will be our targeting areas.

From the 2nd week in November up to December (paaltjies) kabeljou passes by to their breeding area towards Sandwich Harbour. Hentiesbaai all year round depending on the weather and tides, north from Swakopmund never disappoints.
